"Red Tailed Hawk" wood and ceramic wall sculpture by Kimberly Hodges. This is a one of a kind, mixed media wall piece.
Measures 47" x 33" Permanently installed on wood panel support. Comes with a french cleat on back for very simple installation.
Its components include the hand built and glazed ceramic bark, various liquid stains, acrylics, and varnish on the wood. The wood itself was band sawed from reclaimed oak and pine, then scroll cut on my Hegner scroll saw. The striations of the grains of wood can be seen especially on the red hawk tail, as if the wood grew to be on that piece all along.
I love the red tail hawk not only because I see them so often on my daily hikes near Asheville, but for their qualities as symbols of creativity, vision, seeing the higher picture, moving between the unseen and seen realms, and as powerful guardians-among many others.
